I am sure there are some decent VW dealers out there. But I simply have not
seen one in the SFO Bay Area here. That may be typical for all VW dealers
trying to sell parts or services at higher profit margin. But for VWoA to
trying to deny a powertrain warranty like what I experienced is very disturbing.
I probably should not be surprised that even VWoA corporate applies tactics
to deny warranty service at their best. But I am indeed shocked by the poor
quality/reliability out of my 2001 Passat V6/30V. My experience with the 2001
Passat has really trashed my trust on VW.
VW boasts 6 (or 7) coating on the paint on Passat. It turned out to me that
it is not even close to the paint on the old Vanagon. It scratches off from
the bumper easily. The overall paint condition looks tired only after 6 years.
The console rattles/vibrates upon small pot holes on the road. Rear brake
wore out before 50k miles. The fact one CV joint went bad at 80k mile is a
proof that it is no better even than Korean made sedans. Very disappointing.
Among European cars in America I sure feel VW is one that will follow Crysler
and Ford next. Toyota and Honda will take over the market share.
Talking about Vanagons. Reliability of Syncros seems a big issue. I resisted
in getting anywhere near any Syncros for fear of losing control of my pockets.
