I think because of the difficulties in the oil markets, you will see
more and  more engines switched over to the synthetics. It makes sense.
The sooner we get off of crude oil from the Middle East and elsewhere,
the better. And every little bit helps, even switching to synthetics.
Besides, the synthetics are very good for the engines as far as I'm
concerned. The manufacturers are not selling us snake  oil. The
synthetics were first developed for the racing world for those high
powered, hight temperature racing engines. I have used 15W50 Mobil One
Synthetic in my 2.1 powered '88 GL for quite a few years now. Never had
a problem. And it helps immensely in reducing the tendency of my van to
valve clatter due to collapsed lifters.
