We bought a Wolfsburg Vanagon in '89, also bought the extended warranty for 100K miles. During this period the 3/4 trans slider problem went bad. When I went to the dealer to get it fixed, the dealer was out of business. Turns out the extended warranty was from the DEALER, not from VW. So after lots of correspondence with VWoA, I was out the $1,500 I paid for the extended warranty (and then had to pay for the rebuilt trans). So watch out please folks, check who is backing the extended warranty before you buy one!

Ford dealers are even worse than VW - Slimy. For example they were extremely mad that I got financing from my credit union at better terms than they offered with their stupid deals. And then the Expedition was horrible, major repairs all the time, while still under warranty and thereafter. I will never, ever buy another Ford. (even though supposedly they now won some quality awards, which I will always believe were somehow rigged).

No woder everyone is after subi conversion.

I was stupid to have bought a battery for my Vanagon from a dealer. It had a 4 year warranty on it. It died in 3 years. Called the dealer. They said they could schedule an appointment for me to bring it in for a check up. There would be a fee of $50 for the check up. If they decide to honor the warranty I could get a prorated refund of about $20. They really treated customers like idiots.
