Wow! I never would have thought to look there, but if that happened to you...I have the same mounts, from what I understand, the Inline four VW mounts are from a diesel kit..same block, I hear. Now that I think about it, I also have some 'tramping' back there when I lose traction on gravel hill roads...I thought that was standard behavior..a wheel hop noise...but that too could be the motor lifting up as the wheels grab. I certainly have to check that out first thing in the AM..
You wouldn't happen to know where to source that particular kind of motor mount, would you? I didn't do the conversion, the former owner did, and I have no idea how to contact him..Is that some kinda special mount from the kit, or is it an adaptation of a standard mount from some car? If you know..I can find out somehow..if indeed it is that, which now seem likely...
Cool, gotta love this list..Thank you

I was having similar sounding noises on turns R & L from back there and it turned out to be torn motor mount on R side. I have diesel mounts on my TIICO. The mechanic looked under the van while I very slowly started from full-stop, turned hard L & R and notice the motor raising on the R side. The noise was a rubbing/buzzing sort of noise because some of the sheetmetal was coming in contact with stuff it normally doesn't until the engine tips up, and vibrated .... voila .... the noise.
You could probably have anyone kneel down back there and put your e-brake on hard, and while in gear, slowly let the clutch out and have them look to see if the side of the engine raises up and the mount on that side "releases". Mine had a barely noticeable crack in it between the rubber and sheetmetal it's bonded to. Hard to see while the engine was static, but visible once you knew it was cracked.

> Very intermittently, after coming to a complete stop then turning left and accelerating, my Vanagon sometimes makes a kinda scratchy buzzy noise. Sounds like it is coming from the right rear, almost like a tire is rubbing on something..As soon as the direction of travel is straightened out, the sound goes...The sound has come about 5 times over a month or so. The interval between episodes is not increasing..Totally random times, though twice it has come at the same corner..which is on my way anywhere...
