Your suggestion is what I would have taken had I
not an appointment .
Spending the time trying to find a replacement or
getting a rebuild was not practical for reaching
the destination with limited time.
In the end, a fuel filter clogged with storage
tank fiberglass caused me to miss the last day .
So yes, taking time is great when you have the
time to take- this is not a vacation, but a
business trip ala Vanagon Westfalia style.
I should have allowed 15 days and not 8.
It's been a while since the last road trip cross
country and the roads are also worse and more
beat up.
My Advice: Avoid I-80 at all costs. Get a clear
reusable glass inline fuel filter.
And oh yes, bring a spare starter.
