Back when I spent 6 months touring the Rockies, Mexico, Alaska and Canada in my 1984, during what I call my "mid-life walk-about" (six months), I went over most of the high passes in the Rockies with no engine or vehicular difficulties. Got snowed in during an overnight atop, I believe, McClellan Pass, and a town grader came up and cleared a way down for me - a care taker on a mountain top several miles away had seen my dilemma and notified the town below. I could have hiked down easily - had all the equipment I needed - but was grateful for the assistance. The guy wouldn't accept any payment, but did refer me to a local youth organization where I could make a donation - They and I were appreciative. SamC |
