My experience mirrors Jeff's.

FedEx is also generally cheaper than UPS. I've been using them exclusively after having too many damaged packages from UPS. I filed a claim with Fedex once and they sent me a check for the full value of the equipment, no questions asked.

Note: Your service may be directly related to who your pickup and delivery person is, and the policies of the local office. At one place I lived, even though it was a security building (inside halls needing a key or code to enter) I was told by UPS that their office manager required that ALL packages be signed for in person. (Meaning I had to drive to the office to pick them all up.)
