It's about 400 miles round trip depending on how much I drive around in the valley and on the Tioga Pass. The engine sounds nice. This is an encouraging part. Yes, I am going to drive it for the trip. I know for sure it will not destroy anything. And I agree it may take a lot more miles from what it is (800 break-in miles only) to really tell if it will make it or not.

Driving around the block it runs nicely in fact. But I know it will be a real dog when it begins to climb long hills. But as long as it is not over heating the engine can take it and take it without any bad consequance depite that I have to floor it all the way to the top of the hill. I live in the Silicon Valley. I pretty much have to climb out of the valley each time I travel toward east. The camper had taken that many times a year. It will be just another slow climbing.

Thanks again for feeding me all your invalued information regarding rebuilding a wasserboxer. My westy is an older model (83.5). If I had a much newer one I would have considered a subi conversion. I may sell both the westy and my 84 and replace with a late model weekender next year, if this engine rebuild does not make it.

David
