Subject: coolant pipe insert repair
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

I am currently working on the cooling system on my '88 Westy AT 55K miles. Well, okay, not right now. When the temperature on the driveway went past 100ºF, I had to give it up. Glad I don't live in Phoenix. When the subject of the inserts has come up before, besides the GoWesty kit, which I used on my '90, people have suggested pop-rivets or SS screws through the plastic pipe into the metal insert, to hold it in place. So far, I have looked at only the front ends of the two pipes, and they are in good condition, but I am thinking about SS screws to keep them in place. Has anyone actually done this? Rivets or screws? Where did you place them and any problems later? Or should I just leave well enough alone? Jerry P.S. Is there an easy way to get the rear hose off, the one with the molded branch going to the AT cooler? Doesn't look like anyway to get movement fore or aft.
