Subject: Coolant leak from the engine!
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

Dear vanagon list,

Last night I discovered a coolant leak on my engine. It appears to be on a welded seam under behind a bolted-on metal panel close to the oil filter. The drip amount is low, but enough that I can simply ignore it. Seems like it would be possible to simply weld the leak shut, but I know little about of these things. All I know it's possible to weld aluminum (with a TIG?) and it appears like it would be a simple job.

Can any of you recommend a place that would do this in the Bay Area? Right now my two mechanics are Karmakanix and the Buslab, but I'm open to suggestions.

Perhaps I don't even need to get it welded and there's some form of industrial "glue" that would do the job?

Ideas welcome!

Please reply to me directly at fryday@california.com as I don't often have a chance to check my mail!

Philippe
