HMMM. Money pits. I bought my 1984 Catalina 25 footer 7 years ago for $4000.00. It had been pretty nicely cared for by the two previous owners. Since then, I've replaced the bow and stern lines, bought and poured some anti-odor stuff into the head, paid for storage and moorings, and about $35.00 for fuel for the motor. I don't even want to review and verify what the 84 Westy has pulled out of my wallet. Looking at the markets for each type and year of those two conveyances, it appears that both vehicles have increased in value. But, I'm noticing that there are far more stink-pot power boats for sale in yards than sail boats...and the large RVs seem to be still parked alongside a lot of driveways. But, our Malletts Bay is filled daily with sails on boats heading out to and returning from the broad lake. Oh yes, I spent $70.00 this summer on supplies to rehab the keel and bottom of the boat. Last summer, I spent $2500.00 for the Westy's body work.
