Well, here's a shocker for you (it was for me). GT International is
DIRECTLY across the street from VWG/Airhead Parts (found in the "Contact Us"
page on their site). As I'm at the warehouse catching up on the mail, I
decided to take a walk over there just now. It's one of those 700 to 1500
square foot shops with a roll up door on the end of one of those
multi-industrial, multi-unit shop buildings (unlike VWG/Airhead which is in
it's own stand-alone warehouse of much larger porportions on the opposite
side of the street). There's a sign that says Carlson Auto Repair, so the
person operating GT International is probably running it from both at home
after hours or there at the shop during business hours (sign could be a
decoy as well). Very non-descript, nothing to indicate a world-wide
distribution center of auto parts for 21 different marques.
After a quick check in the customer database I can report that they've never
purchased anything from VWG/Airhead Parts, they're not even listed.
Based on browsing through their online catalog, they're definitely a front
for at least two different warehouse importer/distributors, possibly more.
Confidentialty prohibits my saying who of course. One of their more
expensive items is a Glove Box Latch, Locking w/keys for $118(!). A bit on
the high side I might say, wonder where they're sourcing that from?
A bit more looking around this week will be in order methinks. I'm gonna
have fun with this one ;-)
