I've gotta say, this is a nice solution Malcom--the plywood cot.

FWIW: this reminded me. In the old Westfalia catalogue I have that shows the Vanagon canvas child cot installed, the driver's seat is swiveled toward the center isle. This would not have been obvious to me unless I saw it, but the driver's seat back looks like it "might" interfere with the child's cot if not swiveled this 90 degrees.

The passenger seat back can be reclined back out of the way of the rear support pole for the cot. But the driver's seat back in full Westy cannot recline all that much because it hits the kitchen. So swivel 90 degrees and the seat back is against the driver's side door window and out of the way.

A simple option is to turn the 2 front sets to face each other, use plywood and foam mattress to go across the 2 seats. One could rig sides for the bed too.
