I hope you have the software for the antenna AND it works with your
software.
That out of the way, I and many others have had good luck with GPS/Laptop
combinations by just putting the antenna iin the window.  I throw mine up
against the windshield on top of the dash and get good as good a result as
with a hand held in the cab.
BTW, the newer vehicle GPS and handheld GPS units apparently have an antenna
and reciever combination that works much, much better than in the past up to
and including relaiable reception inside many buildings.  I'm not aware of
(but would expect to find if I looked) USB port GPS antennas that are using
this newer capability.
