feed wires thru hole

Well, that's not the way I do them. Too much trouble with the door panel and vapour barrier plastic to contend with. What I DO is this > Remove the mirror from the housing, detach the two wires to the heater in back of the mirror, remove the plate that holds the motor, remove the four wires going to the motor, making a drawing so you know where to go when it's time to replace them, cut off the big terminal ends that will not fit through the hole in the mirror base then pull the wires out of the mirror base. The terminal ends you cut off are available at your FLAPS. I keep them is stock !
