Seal the door with tape for testing.

The warmer air rises, gets cooled at the heat sink, and falls. With no groceries, there is already circulation due to this convection. Moving the air more rapidly won't do anything.

Interesting idea -- what if the reefer is limited by the meager cooling surface? Can't think offhand of an easy test for this, though. If there was some way to double the cooling surface, temporarily, a fellow could do a before 'n' after.
