I do believe the key to my misunderstanding, is as you and others have pointed out. Turning the screw in, does open the valve, but it will adjust the lifter over a bit of time, so I am probably okay with just zero, plus 1 1/2 turns. Gonna go for it in a day or two, when I get hydrated back to normal...

Essentially, I have three holes at about 23% leak, but one is nearly 55%, so I am still up against it..

Its now time to consider the effort and details of dropping the engine. I do not wish to pull the head with the engine in the van....My kingdom for a lift <shrug> working on cars is great fun. Getting under, and flopping around, is taking its toll....
