Subject: Looking for shops in northern Utah
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed

Just wondering if any neighbors in the northern half of Utah, can recommend a machine shop to rebuild my air cooled heads? (or does anyone, anywhere, have a set for sale? <g>) Planning on how to deal with the deck I have been dealt, and one route, would be just rebuilding what I have. Not real familiar with shops and VW experts in the area.

I always had it cared for by V&W Volkswagon in Murray, but the guy who really liked air cooleds, and my van in particular, retired..... Too bad, because he would offer every year to rebuild it for a few thousand. Based on how I use the van, that would have been a good way to go, but of course, he is gone, and here I am. :-)

Anyway, I also wonder if sending the heads in a UPS box to a good shop most anywhere, would be another option?

Not sure how much such a job would cost, based on not knowing the condition of the valves and seats, but can anyone venture a ball park cost for a pair of air cooled heads to be rebuilt? As I said, gotta come up with some info, so I can plan accordingly...

thanks a lot,

John
