Don't forget offset. Most late model S-class have huge offsets. Syncros can tolerate up to ET45; 2wd about ET35 depending on width. You can correct with spacers but correct ones can be expensive. A listmember recently reported a wobbling problem which turned out to be caused by poor quality spacers.

Just a reminder, most MB cars used 12mm lugbolts. Those will not fit Vanagons w/o redrilling. The mounting pads on alloy wheels are normally much thicker than steel wheels. Longer studs and bolts can be used to compensate but cost may offset savings on wheels.

Greater detail can be found in the archives.
