Pat, I've had the German ones for several years and love 'em. Yes the rubber is thicker under the heel of the gas foot. That makes the individual water catcher rectangles not as deep as the rest of the mat but no worries there. It also has little spaced ridges on the floor side and they don't move around. For most of the year in N. MI. I get into the van with snow covered boots and the outside lip is perfect for keeping the melt contained. Ya just have to dump it out every once in a while.
