Thanks to everyone who replied, but the first response I got was from Warren on Subaru/Vanagon list. Turns out there are two locating pins on each side, and they were kind of "stuck". Hitting them with some PB Blaster and then carefully tapping a thin screwdriver into the joint broke them apart. FWIW, I am using a cherry picker type hoist, and the two front engine mounting nuts were off-in fact, once I got the engine about 5 inches off the cross member, I took the mounts off completely. I guess it was just a little corrosion in these pins that was causing the engine not to budge. It's out now, and as they say, "It's Miller time" Jeff |
