I am watching this thread closely because on Sunday I am heading up highway 395 to Bishop, CA., where a high of 102F is predicted. Three degrees hotter the following day. I, too, am driving a 1.9L. A good time will be had by all. If the cooling system can handle it. If not, then it's nighttime driving. I went across the desert a couple times with my old man when I was a kid. Burlap sack of water strapped across the front grill, bomb-shaped evaporative cooler mounted above Mom's door. Secret is finding classic courtyard style motorcourt motel with pool in middle. That, and some cold beer. I know the drill.
