Sure thing, Ben! Please show us all your handiwork. Always a joy to see an artisan and his craft!

Benny boy <huotb@VIDEOTRON.CA> wrote: Hey, a little follow-up on a heads/reseal job a did 2 years ago (30k miles), i had to used the same old head, they were good at that time, i had to do this job fast just before Christmas for the customer vacation.

Anyway, to the point, the left head was leaking OUTSIDE, crack between one upper/outter stud and sparkplug, very small hairline crack. As i did the job 2 years ago i decided to leave the engine in the van and proceed, pretty straight foward, now the tec stuff about my re-seal procedure:

-With the 8 studs removed, the head was still stuck there (they always pop (pushrod tube side) out usually), this tell a lot about The Right Stuff still holding that head there.

-With some pressure and slight banging, the head snap off from TRS (The Right Stuff) / head gasket.

-The sleeve where NOT stock at all to the heads (Grease/Permatex aviation)

-The sleeve are stuck to the engine (bottom end), thank to Permatex 518 Series, i can't even turn them. The good side of that is that i don't need to change/replace the bottom black O-ring, this is just a quick repair for another vacation, this guys is going Subi the next time.

-TRS stil in place is very easy to remove before puting another used head and new head gasket.

Conclusion: TRS is THE product to use there. I know i have said that before but i am saying it again.

It's the first ever time i had to re-open one of my engine.

If some of you want picture, i can take some, but p-mail me fast, i work fast and this head will be re-seal in a short time.

Cheers, Ben http://www.benplace.com/vw2.htm
