Just persistance...until he gets used to the idea of sleeping in a strange place. Plus there should be no distractions like lights, grownups drinking beer or playing guitars around a campfire!

now he is 1.5 yr, and needs a proper sleeping surface. he consistently sleeps 12 hours/night in his crib in his room. we bought a mini-tent from one of the online kid-stuff retailers, and he likes to hang out in it. we tried our fist trip a month ago, at a site 45 min from home. the day went okay, but we were completely unable to get him to mellow out for bed time. at 10:30 we gave up and drove home. he was asleep before we got on the highway...

so- any parents have ideas about how to soothe a child to sleep in a westy? when we go over to friends houses, we bring a pack-n-play, and he'll sleep in that for a few hours while my wife and i enjoy our dinner party or whatever. so it's not like he can't sleep anywhere but his crib.

we could try again, maybe he was just fussy that day. but it's a big hassle to get all loaded up for a trip and then have to come home the same night.

tia.
