This is an attempt to tap into a wider list knowledge outside the 'Diesel Vanagon' forum....

Question: Is there anyone out there who has installed an EGT gauge who has concerns about the accuracy of the gauge.

I ask this because I was reading on one man's blog about his installation of an EGT Gauge...Quote.."The leadwire from the thermocouple (it's a special wire, don't cut it to lengthen or shorten and don't solder the connections)" Unquote...

I had excellent feedback (from Diesel-Vanagon) on why not to cut/extend/solder/screw up the supplied wire harness, but no clear solution to the problem. I can't believe that of all the people who have installed these pyrometers that each and every one, did the 'correct' thing and purchased 'special' wire or calibrated the gauge.

Perhaps someone on the list has a source for this wire. I bought the 'kit' from "eGauges" http://www.egauges.com/vdo_mult.asp?Type=Pyrometer&Series=Vision and they don't list longer wire of any length. (24' wanted).

Unless I can find the 'proper' wire, I think I will have to set up a bench test and actually 'calibrate' the gauge using a stable heat source set to accurately pinpoint 1000 degrees and use that as an installed reference point.
