I don't know if Plumber's Goop and is the same as other GOOP's but it is
good stuff. I have seen it used for any number of things. The most
spectacular fix I know of was the repair of a pair of leaking Chest
waders for fishing. I had not used my waders for a couple of years, then
one day went fishing - I was in Alaska at the time. Damn things filled
with water. I fished the day out, but when I got home, I filled them
with water and found and marked the leaks, then drained and dried them.
I applied a bit of the GOOP inside and out at the leak points and never
had any more trouble with them. Fixed about 5 or 6 small rips, probably
from rocks.
Back in the day when I first got my 85 GL, and before I knew anything
about the Vanagon List, Bentley, etc, I had a rear heater valve leak. I
took the valve out, saw the leak was at the seal, put on a coat of
Plumber's GOOP, re-assembled it, and it never leaked again.
Good stuff, that GOOP!
