Jeez guys, this guy's van almost burns and the thread goes into
sectarian disagreements based on google search results?... at least
let's change the subject line
Jake, also keep in mind, that while we're all smiling since this is
obviously not scientific... and I agree with your apples to apples
attention... the numbers on the road themselves. There are something
like 30-40 zetecs per each ej22 or ej25, and around 200 zetecs per svx
engine.. but better than that, dump the google idea and just go to the
reliability index site here:
http://www.reliabilityindex.co.uk/man_index_2.html?searchtype=engine&country=usa
That link is specifically for engines alone, and since their profits
are directly related to how accurate their information is... they have
lot's to lose in being wrong about it.
Oh and I disagree with you about your numbers making subaru look good.
What makes Subaru look good is superimposed deer and geese in front of
their Lafayette plant, and supermodel spokesmen telling people how
environmentally responsible they are ha
But anyhow, joking aside, I can tell you that the weak point on the
zetec is the rod bolts. When kids hop up focii and remove the rev
limiter for lower 1/4 times and better street racing performance, the
first thing that fails is the rod bolts go and then they do indeed
throw rods. ARP makes replacements rod bolts, but IMO they aren't
advisable unless there is a genuine need to do it... you open anything
like that up and you usually end up inviting more problems to the
party than the problems you've just bounced. You won't have this
issue in a vanagon though, nobody is revving to 8 or 9 grand and
holding it through 3 gears...
flamesuit on yet again,
