folks, longtime listmember Doug Ford from conneticut (vanagons@cox.net) called me last nite and he is in dire straights.. he bought a subie powered westy in california, then was driving it back east, when the engine caught on fire somewhere in southeast pa.. i dont know the extent of the damage, but doug said the body is still good, just the wiring and the top of the subaru motor was "crispy critters" as he put it.. he is looking for someone who works on vanagons w/ subaru engines.. he had it towed to a shop in Bechtelsville PA (Lehmann's - ron salmon uses them for work on his vans) but he is afraid they wont want to touch it because its not vw powered anymore.. the obvious came to mind, vanaru/east coast vanagon in stroudsburg PA, but doug already called them and they said they dont work on vanagons anymore(?!?) so doug is basically up the creek without a paddle.. if anyone knows someone who would work on a subaru engined vanagon in southeast pa, or can give doug some advice, email me and i will fwd you his cell number.. apparently the engine fire happened yesterday evening, doug still has to make it home to conneticut.. i really dont know anyone else who does the subiue engine conversion work in this area, so any ideas are welcome... chris
