Subject: VW T5 California Camper
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1
Hello Volks!
I've rented a VW T5 California Camper for a week for
traveling in Europe (Germany, Austria and Italy)
scheduled for collection in 9 days. It's the newest VW
camper, with all the bells and whistles. Still, it's
an ultra compact camper without shower or toilet,
hence we'll be very much dependent on camping sites.
We've selected the T5 camper in favor of a larger
motor-home because it's much easier and fun to handle
and park in scenic places en-route, but the lack of
toilet/shower can cause problems with the ladies on
board...
Since very little info is available in advance (except
for the usual interior design pictures on the web) and
no user manual, I'd like to find out if anyone here
has experience with this type of camper and can help
me plan using this camper efficiently.
So here are the questions...:
1. Does anyone know if the sink spigot is retractable
or fixed? Has anyone tried using it as an
(external/internal) shower by filling the freshwater
tank with hot water? Is the flow good enough for a
quick shower when needed?
2. Is there an option for a roof rack or to attach
one? The roof is electrically/hydraulically elevated
and can handle a 50Kg additional load IIRC.
3. Is there a user manual available for view or
download over the Internet?
4. I've received invoices from various camping sites
on our route, and they seem to be quite expensive
(around 40 Euros per night - half the cost of the
camper!). Since we don't plan to spend much time in
the camping sites anyway (more driving around and
enjoying the activities and the view, no need for a
swimming pool etc.), can anyone suggest cheaper
options that offer a safe sleeping spot, toilets, and
maybe even a shower? Maybe there are safe rest stops
or shopping centers along the highways, that are more
practical for the vacationer on-the-go, where we can
park if needed and restock supplies too?
And we'd need to refill freshwater and dump grey water
too.
That's it for now. Thanks for any help offered.
TM
Cheers, T-man.
