A friend of mine has an Engle reefer and is very happy with it. Runs it off a battery bank of 2-6v Trojans under the rear bench and a 110 watt solar PV panel. Nice thing about a portable unit like that as opposed to a Norcold is that you can easily move it to a boat, home or another vehicle. Also, when not camping it can be pulled out of the van for more room and less weight to carry around. The space where the Dometic reefer resided could be used as additional storage. Only downside I see besides being expensive (but so is a Norcold) is that you can't have a freezer and reefer at the same time. It is one or the other. I just read a review for the big 64qt model from a guy who drove down to Florida in the heat of summer with a load of frozen food and then back north with a fresh load of fish he had caught and froze in the Engle. He claimed the average temp was 15F!!! At night he would move the reefer into the motel room to run it off of 120AC so as to not deplete his starting battery. Being a top loader keeps the cold inside, too.

Anybody else got some experience with an Engle or other decent portable reefer?
