It mounts to the two tow loops that hang down from the rear bumper and a flat bar extends forward from the center of the hitch to mount with the two middle motor mounts on the engine carrier (comes w/longer replacement screws). Mine went on flawlessly, but then again, I had just replaced motor mounts, so the hardware down there was already new and/or cleaned up.

Not sure on the Subie conversion if the engine mounting is different - not well-versed in that area, but I know plenty others here are!
