Yah, the way it went for me, (when I purchased my Westy as a total
newbie) I had to remove it to fix the connection to the sparker
(Piezo). I also cleaned the chamber, and polished up the burner
surface. (better ground for spark to jump to)

I wish I had burped coolant while in there. Regardless it wasn't a big
deal to remove and repair.

If you want to bench test the LP (at your own risk!) you can hook up a
standard BBQ tank to supply the LP.

One thing you may find is that the casing on some wiring melted. This
may have produced the smoke....... although I can't see how the smoke
would have gotten into the exhaust pipe..... regardless of my spotty
visual memory of where the wires live on the fridge itself.
