well, as promised, here are a couple of photos of the CV'S unlimited power steering rack unit through Rock Auto. first off, the end of the tie rod was sticking out of the end of the box with a cardboard tube and plastic over it. turns out the vanagon rack is wider than most they sell/rebuild? otherwise it appears fine, and I wanted to get something done in the USA. they (cv'sunlimited) do offroad CV work so I wanted to give them a try. the old rubber mounting bushings are still mounted, and are not in real bad shape. I include a comparison to my old rack for reference. I plan to mount it in the next week and will keep ya'll posted. Rustfalia, in WI
