Subject: Re: Inside a Subi engine EJ22

What is the point of your first question?

Is it important? crucial?

The 2.5L subi is more heavy, how i now, i can't lift this one alone :-) How much more... me i don't care at all! What i can tell you is it doesn't change the handling at all on dry pavement.. of course! Winter! i don't care , i don't drive a 20 yo van in winter.

As for your last question! Do some research! Subi engine have been in Vanagon for a long long time, even is old VW Bus's. Why, again, they are boxer type engine, flat four, they fit there like a glove. Some vanagon have 300k miles 2.2 Subi in there, i guest that some are tired. I should know, we just did one today, refresh the cooling system and exhaust system. Engine do go wrong sometime, that is life, if you think that a Vanagon with a Subi is perfection, no, it is not... the rest of the can still fall appart! If you are still unsure, sell your van, get an Honda Accord and a tent trailer... you should be fine now.

So if some of those old timer Subi folks have decided to go with a ZTEC or Tico, good for them, it's fresh air, new stuff.

One thing that many of you, not to say all, don't understand is that only lately a Subi conversion was done so perfectly. Thank to company like Kenedy, Small Car and Vanaru. So very old conversion were done poorly, even scary, like the one we upgrated today... that engine as been in a vanagon for 170k miles... and it's still going strong at 160psi all around.

So stop those thread about all that old lady talk... you make me laugh.

When any of you will be ready to have a solid Subaru engine conversion in the back of your van... like an 2005, 2006 or even a 2007 Fly by wire, variable valves timing engine with 5-10k miles on it, call Hans at Vanaru... i can also help.

I'm driving a Subaru vanagon van each day since 2 months, i'm not even telling how frigging happy i am... you have no idea! i just reach 4000 miles on it and yea, i have nothing to complaint about, nothing! Believe me, if i didn't like something, you would all know.

Now stop asking and dreaming, go get 8-9k$ and have one :-) you will find stupid reason to drive your van each day!

Ben http://www.benplace.com/85westy_2_mecanique2.htm ps.: i love this list, i love to help in any way i can, i still work hard to save our old VW boxer engine... but there is new path, and i love those one and yes i will talk about them... if this is a problem here, tell me so, i will stop and go elsewhere.
