Since i started playing in Vanagon engine i was always able to save them... from a certain death.

For the first time yesterday and today, i can't! i can't save nothing on that engine, mostly because of rust, coolant corosion (inside and out) and a very old 200k miles engine. Even the core is worned out.

I can not save nothing! the only good part left were the following: New alternator, bypass coolant tube, the injector rails and a few small parts, those were replace lately.... here is the rest, good for the metal guy. http://www.benplace.com/maritime2007/odd_dead1.jpg

I will show you only one picture, this show the engine condition in general: http://www.benplace.com/maritime2007/odd_dead2.jpg (i hope you know what this is... an injector)

The intake tube were perforated, the plenium also, the throttle body was so loose and rusted that i had to trow away this one also. Heads... i won't talk about those, i don't even understand how that engine was still working. The exhaust was a nightmare. Even the side shield are in the garbage, not even good for the metal guy...

So, i quoted him a 5200$ invoice with a used good core, new heads, new pistons + an good use injection system... but without the Exhaust system, so with a new exhaust system, we were in the 6k$ +.

Hans is still with me in Montreal... (don't ask!) so the customer (almost crying) decided to go Subaru... he is quite lucky, we have a 2.5L almost ready. So for a few more K$, he will have somthing fast and reliable in the back for a long time...

When you get close to the 5-6K... look elsewhere than a rebuilt VW wasser engine!

Today, my fun was to open a Subi, a 2.2, just for fun, i had a look inside... this one has about 65K miles

That will be another post later tonight...

Benny
