New copper is better than cracked and leaky plastic or rubber - but only in the sense that the copper lets you drive into town instead of walk. Once you're in town, ditch the copper and replace it with steel or new plastic or rubber. Copper is great when not exposed to vibration (like in a house), but where it is (like in a car) it will eventually work- harden and crack.
