TJ,

You can see the difference on my webpage that shows my line drawing of the coolant system for the 2.1l: http://www.vanagain.com/21lchc.htm

Both part numbers are clearly listed along with corresponding numbers on the line drawing. As you can see you are talking about part number 025121171 which is 38 on the chart. The picture shows a rough drawing for what it is, a small 90 degree piece of pipe that attaches to a short hose and then another piece of pipe which runs under the engine main pulley. The other part number is 025121160D which is number 41 on the chart. This is a metal flange with a small nipple sticking out of the center of it that is below the power steering pump. They are two different parts. I can kind of understand some of the confusion because both were once made of plastic by VW and now are only available in steel (praise God!). They are also both on the same general area on the engine. However one look at the drawing and you can easily see a difference and see exactly where they are located on the engine.

I even have a picture of the 160D flange on my webstore (although a small one). The other part has a link to the line drawing for clarification. I know the Vanagon coolant system can be confusing, that is why I made the line drawings (because the dealer parts pictures are confusing too). Print them out and put a copy in your Bentley for future reference.

Hope this helps, Ken Wilford John 3:16 www.vanagain.com
