Propane restrictions in tunnels has nothing to do with 911. Most tunnels restrict it or limit the tank size to 10 pounds. That may explain the small tank we get. The Maryland tunnels also prohibit it and the Chesapeake requires the propane tank to be closed. Sometimes they will even check and tag it. Ferries will also restrict propane. The George Washington Bridge also requires a bypass on the NY side to avoid going under some buildings.

oh yeah, and if you are trying to take a Westy into Manhattan via the Lincoln or Holland tunnel there is a very good chance they'll turn you away and make you take the GW bridge and/or go through Staten Island/Brooklyn.

After 9/11 they don't allow any vehicles with propane tanks through the tunnels, even if your tanks are empty....I learned this one the hard way after being in the Holland tunnel lineup for almost 1 hour...
