Subject: trying to identify the engine in my bus
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Hello All! I just bought a 83 vanagon. The trouble is, the engine has been changed and I can't figure out the year of the motor in it. Which is causing me some issues cause I need to replace some parts on it. It's quite old, cause it has a carburator. It is either a jetta or rabbit motor (according to the previous owner, who cant recall anything more). The mechanic who did the conversion has long since left town. I have made a few calls, to VW, to the Bus Depot. no help There are two number on the motor, one that is engraved (stamped) in it (ACC066164) and another number, that is raised, (0261033730 21). These two number are located near the spark plugs. There is a another number that is raised, close to the water pump, under a vw logo (051553021). Does anybody have a clue where I can get info on this motor? Thanks a million!
