Subject: Re: Bleeding coolant without a second person?

list:

below link shows very clever method, and one which i've used myself, but does not, by itself, get around the fact that the front heater is higher than the radiator; further, recall the position of the closed thermostat. i would not trust the method as described to provide a solid column of fluid from stem to stern. cracking the lower thermostat housing bolts to allow air to purge from that part of the system, snugging back up once fluid starts to flow out, is helpful. that darn bubble up top, however, is problematical using static methods. i think if we had x-ray vision we'd see that bubble stubbornly float at the highest point, coolant falling through it, doing its best to float back up if momentarily forced downward, and so on. i'm going to get some clear 1/4" and 1/2" tubing, make inverted Us, and do experiemnts in the bath-tub. static method should have a better chance with small tube diameters, and more viscous fluids. if anyone beats me to it, please report to the list.
