I too prefer the LuK kit over the Sachs. Also, the LuK disk and pressure plate are still German made, whereas the Sachs kits can contain parts from Mexico or Canada.

But there are actually two versions of the LuK kit. In 1989 Volkswagen updated the clutch design, resulting in a different part number for the '89-91 clutch kit. Sachs has since stopped selling this kit, and now lists their pre-89 kit as fitting all years. But LuK still offers both versions. The one we sell for $159 is the LuK equivalent of the Sachs kit (but superior, IMO). Our $199 LuK kit is the "89-91" kit. It can actually be used on any year Vanagon (except diesel) and I would consider it an upgrade over the earlier kit. It's a bit heavier duty and is also supposed to require slightly less pedal travel.
