Just saw this exchange and thought I'd add a few comments. Of course, I have no knowledge of the Vintage Air system. Most of the details of my installation are in the Vanagon archives and are readily accessible with a search on my mailing address: FrankGRUN@AOL.com. The unit as pictured on Alistairs web site is certainly a custom installation. However, it was not particularly difficult. I started will all components from the donor Vanagon, used the compressor from my I-4 RV engine and had the custom hose components fabricated by Hoseman here in SoCal. As to performance, I must report that it has been excellent. I carefully sealed the cold air transfer tunnel to the driver's overhead distributor and the airflow as well as temperature control has been the equivalent of any traditional sedan. The air flow to the rear has been excellent keeping adults sleeping on the folded out bed, as well as kids and dogs playing in the center section in the comfort range of 72 to 75 F while passing through gawd-awful central Texas with midday temperatures around 100 F. My point is only that there is plenty of cooling capacity on the part of the AC system to handle the Westfalia interior under the most trying of conditions. Indeed, my primary problem is that at high air flow, the vent directed at the driver's forehead can lead to a headache in 20 minutes or less. I've been modifying the vent pointing mechanism to oscillate the direction - but not done yet.

Ah. Ok

I seem to recall seeing something in Frank Gunthers' ride I saw via Alistair Bells site

This the one?

I assumed it was some kind of AC retrofit that Frank had come up with.

Neil.
