Sure there are lots of cars less expensive than the Smart, but they are cheap pieces of crapola. The Smart is a solid car. I'm sure in the world there are lots of little cars with two seats strapped to the engine for less, but they don't have MB quality.

You really can't compare this to any of the cars you're listing. Smart cars get twice the fuel economy. They're cheaper to operate than any of the vehicles you listed. In the long run, you will save money.

I also like hybrid cars but for my money (what little I have) i prefer diesel technology. These cars are all over Winnipeg, where you could easily lose one in a pothole or snow-filled ditch in the country. Never heard of that happening though. Their website used to feature videos on snow-worthiness and crash testing, not sure if it still does.

Being green isn't being smug, it's being responsible.
