Here is some links that gives a lot of good advice on troubleshooting the
Dometic units. It also explains a number of reasons why they do not
perform as expected. It should be noted that most of our units are 20
years old and they just no longer perform as they did new. The abuse of
using them in closed vans in summer has surely also taken its toll on
them. FWIW the wattage of both the 12 volt and 120 volt heaters is 85. The
BTU input on gas has to be fairly close as to much heat will also stop the
unit from working and damage it.

Looking further into Mike S's question, does anyone know how much
propane the Dometic uses in an hour? or its btu/hour rating?

When running on 12V, the Dometic's 96 watt dissipation converts to 330
btu/hr. In comparison, the Norcold's 15W converts to 51 btu/hr.
