Hi Dennis,
I don't disagree that she should have seen to it that all was fine, but
the valve was more than finger tight when she was done (she touched it
up with pliers herself), the location is noisy so even a great big leak
would go unheard, and the smell of propane's odorant is so strong after
a fill that no one could have smelled it.* So with all that, I don't
fault her. It's just a gas station with a propane filling rig, not a
dedicated propane facility.
That the valve needs quite forceful tightening to fully close is in
agreement with your suggestion that cleaning and lubing is in order.
Anyone know how to do this?

* Contrast this with me sitting around on my big fat white butt for
several days camping, where it is quiet and smells of conifers and
wildflowers, whiffing propane and being too lazy to spend time seeking
the cause.
