For what it is worth, I found those EZ-up canopies very useful as portable shelter. Found a few different ones over the years in different sizes and qualities, but they do work really well for shade, privacy, portability and ease of erection.. Ok... I've used them at racetracks as portable shelter for my racecar(no windows) and as a "patio" when camping in Baja. From bag to fully erect, maybe one minute. A little heavy, perhaps, and somewhat venerable to wind, if not attached or weighted down, but so is any awning that you mount on the van, and you can drive away, leaving your EZ-up in place. Most of them have adjustable legs, for height. So when you leave camp, I usually drop it down as low as possible over whatever it's covering. I use bungees to attach it to the van wheels and weight the outer ends with whatever is handy. I think you can find em on sale for around a hundred bucks in various sizes..I like the 10x10 size with the legs that splay out. You can hang side-curtains off for privacy and wind protection.
