David, if you do find you need a new ECU we have them rebuilt with a one year warranty for $250 plus a $100 core charge. The best way to test it is to swap in a known good one from someone else's van. The Bentley manual gives you all of the tests and then says, if everything else tests good it must be the ECU. The original ECUs had bad (cold) solder joints from the factory that cause most of the failures. These are repaired on our rebuilds along with some other updates. The rebuilds should last longer than the original and my return rate backs this up (less than one a year out of many). Let me know if I can help you further.
