Just wanted to express my sincere THANKS to all that responded to my problems with my 87 GL Vanagon. I was finally able to get her going with the help of list geniuses! Several suggestions were given that I would not have thought of on my own. I owe you guys...THANKS!!!

Turned out the fuel pump that I had bought several years ago and never really used (the van has been sitting for several years) was frozen, but fortunately I have a habit of keeping around old parts that aren't completely worn out. The previous fuel pump was still in my garage and worked fine. I did have to suction the fuel from the "tee" fitting in the engine compartment and to do that I did need to put suction on the line as well as turn on the ignition to get the pump and fuel going. The lines had completely dried out and needed to be primed.

I had just finished rebuilding the engine of this van about 5 years ago and then tore my bicep, so I had to stop working on it for awhile. It feels great to get back into things finally and see her running again. Can't wait to get her out on the road!! Been getting tired of being one of those on the list who is always fixin' my van instead of being out on the roads enjoying it!

Not saying that the van is running great though. It's pretty rough after so many years just standing. There's lots more work to do. Temperature light is on constant (thinking that's the blue temp sensor connectors). There is some smoke / fumes coming up from the exhaust and several rattles that need to be addressed, but I'm feeling like I can get there now at least. She's holding an idle so I'm happy with that!
