It will not work at that point because it needs to be in before the regulator. The bend in the pipe is after that.

The barbecue tank I bought is 2.5 gal because that's all I could comfortably fit in the van and I felt that would nearly double my present capacity of 3 gal.

If you have a pinched copper line, I`d plumb in the other tank right there, as a pinched line is a weak point and may leak. I`d do it their way, but I`m no expert.

are you planning on a 20 lb BBQ tank or other size & why? M
