Subject: Angle question (designing an awning. Image included!)

Hi all.

IF materials fit and assuming van is level and awning built "square"....

image of idea:

Will a 40 deg angle suffice for rain runoff? i.e. will it raise tarp high enough at outter edge to create runoff toward van? Does one want that?

Below: idea somewhat explained. Please don't laugh. This not Frydaye material!!

------------------------------------------

If this works, it'll be pretty cool. Cheap material, standard tarp. The hard part is drilling a hole through 1" tube. Not sure what ID of jack point is yet, so design hinges on that.

Part of the plan includes making or finding, a piece for rear of pop top that would include two mounting points for tarp. One when top up, one when top down. They would mount where poptop bolts are. Obviously made to be level from front to back.

Not sure if putting tees (and some kind of reducer) on ABS for 1/2" EMT poles would work. Originally I thought of using 3/4" or 1" EMT for cross pole, and drilling etc. but it's heavy.

Tarp would tether to new stainless fittings at bolt areas on luggage rack, and rear of pop top. Rain should runoff to metal below poptop canvas, though I'm not sure of that. It's possible it could hit where canvas meets metal.

Tarp would roll up on ABS and somehow fix onto new stainless parts. Somewhat like a fancy roll up awning. Poles might store inside of ABS. Square tubes would be kept inside van possibly for nanchucks! (sp?)

Neil, (who clearly has too much time on his hands!)
